Your first portrait.

About me

I am Gyula Kalmár. Married, father of two adult children. I am the owner and managing director of Szundizz Velünk Kft. Amateur sports shooter and amateur photographer. Survivor 🙂

My love of photography dates back to my childhood, when my mother worked in the photo archive of the army. Sometimes she would take me to her workplace and I could take freshly developed pictures out of the dryer. I really started taking photographs in my early twenties, when my children were born. From that moment on I documented their little development and I still do to this day practically.

These were of course analogue photography techniques, I didn’t have a digital camera at that time. I loved to take pictures of life walking down the street. I also like to photograph nature; plants and animals. The advent of digital cameras gave me a lot of freedom, because from then on I could take as many pictures as I wanted.

There are many ways to take a good photo. You can take a photo without the person noticing. These photographs reflect spontaneity and produce great life moments and portraits, as the person being photographed is not self-conscious (and therefore not producing). The set, instructed images, combined with certain ideas and subjects, reflect rather the creativity and inventiveness of the photographer’s person. Of course, not underestimating the importance of the model, because without her, anyone can come up with ideas! My favourite photo situation is when the model knows I’m taking the photo, a conversation.

In my view, a good portrait does not need to be further varied on the computer, it no longer reflects the image we see, but what we want to see (and be seen). So, it is no longer about the magic of the moment, but about a product that can be perfected to the extreme. A good make-up, a nice hairstyle, aesthetic accessories help to create the right image. In the days of analogue photography, when there was no immediate control over the taking of the pictures, you took 20 rolls of photos and selected the 3 good ones. But those pictures were very good. Today, they still take a lot of pictures, but they are perfected as post-production, which may be nice, but it is very far from reality.

Of course, there may be skin imperfections that are worth retouching, but to rejuvenate someone for 20 years and make them look like a porcelain doll is a bit much. I’ve looked at a lot of pictures, flipped through a lot of magazines, taken a lot of online lectures and courses and bought a lot of photography books to self-educate myself in photography.

I created this site so that you can take your first portrait photo without any constraints, and hang it on your wall at home or add it to your portfolio. All this for free, with no strings attached.

How is your portrait made?

I give you my time, my professional equipment, my knowledge, and you give me YOU. It’s an adventure together, where I get more professional experience and you get to see a thousand faces, even if you may have thought “I’m not photogenic”. If you like the pictures and want to have your photos taken again, you know who to expect.

I want you to know that I don’t aim to make a living from photography (I do anaesthetize adults and children – sometimes injured children – at dental clinics with my company), so I will certainly not persuade you to do any more photo shoots.

I would like to pass on to you, my Dear Prospective Model, the feeling that we should appreciate the beautiful things and enjoy life in this hectic, often stressful world.
